Family, Bees, and Fireworks!

We had a great 4th of July weekend! It was fun to see the Perry's and Grandma and Grandpa Reading over the weekend. We also visited with a lot of Rich's side of the family. They had a cousins reunion in Centerville. We stopped in to see the house that Grandpa Reading was born in, and grew up in. It's a pretty cool old house. I would have liked to see what it looked like back in the day though. I was told that they were in the floral business so the foliage and colors in the landscaping used to be quite a site!

The interior and some of the exterior has definitely been remodeled and looks much different than it used to. The coining on the exterior are actually reject pieces from the Salt Lake Temple. How cool is that!?

On Sunday, we celebrated the birthday of Rich and Jordan since it was their birthdays this last week! We had a family dinner with everyone but the Lockhart's (who were with his family). We are definitely excited for the camping trip that was planned for later this summer with all of them... :) Other than plan for the next trip we didn't do a whole bunch. It was really nice since we ended up with ALL of the sunbeams in our class from lack of teachers. We were not really prepared for that many kids. We were a little tired after. Not too bad, but with P's back issues, rest was needed.

Monday, Independence Day, was kind of weird weather. We wanted to go on a hike but the trails were muddy. We wanted to go out to the lake in daybreak, but it was rainy/overcast. We ended up going to the Kennecott Bingham Copper Mine a little later in the day. It was neat to see how big that mining hole is.

It was interesting to see how the earth formed copper too. Did you know it's the one of the best conductors of electricity? That's why it's in pretty much everything! I didn't realize how big this mine was though compared to the others in the world.

What a big tire! This thing only lasts one year and costs $25K each. Each truck has six... they have a lot of trucks too... that's a lot of money...

Last, we figured what better way to celebrate America, than by America's favorite past-time - Baseball! Of course it's just my favorite sport, so we decided to go to the Bees vs. 51's game. The Bees hung on to their lead and won!

It was funny how it ended though. The security guys came over to us and said that everyone in the grass was going to need to move to the field for the Fireworks show (AWESOME). At the top of the ninth people started packing up their stuff and heading over to stand in line to get a good seat for the post game show. Really? Is there not going to be enough room on the field? Isn't the view pretty much the same anywhere you sit down there? Yes, and yes. So I jokingly said, "those people are getting up prematurely I feel. This game is going to tie up and go into extra innings and they are going to be stuck standing there..."

It ended up being a lot closer game than it should have. The Bees don't have a very good bullpin right now. The starting pitcher did great and kept them to 1 run. The relief cam in and allowed 2 more runs, but that wasn't too bad considering the score was 10-3 at the top of the ninth. Their closer allowed the bases to load up, and then pitched the biggest meatball possible and the guy smashed a grand slam out of the park! It was a big hit and there were no outs. Then they scored a couple more runs, and finally struck out the last guy to finish the game 10-9. My prophecy was so close to coming true. It was definitely a lot longer than anyone thought though. :)

It was a great fireworks show at the end! It lasted quite a while and had great music along with some pretty awesome fireworks. I love it when you can feel them through your whole body (like the bright one in this pic)! We were close enough to get a shower of debris from them too... lol
